Refashion, a prominent eco-organisation dedicated to managing waste from the textile, footwear, and homeware sectors in France, is set to embark on an exciting tour across the south of France this autumn. The organisation is launching a pop-up campus focused on garment repair and the principles of circular fashion, offering a unique and educational experience to the public.

The Refashion pop-up campus will journey through three major cities from 27th September to 28th October 2024. The tour will commence in Montpellier from 27th to 30th September at Place du Nombre d’Or. The campus will then move to Nice, setting up at Place Masséna from 4th to 7th October. Finally, the tour will conclude in Marseille at Place Jean Jaurès from 25th to 28th October. Each location will host the event daily from 11 am to 7 pm (CEST), providing ample opportunities for attendees to engage with the various activities on offer.

This travelling initiative, aptly named the Refashion Academy, is designed to educate and empower the public on the importance of clothing and textile repair, as well as the broader concepts of circular fashion. Through hands-on workshops, thematic discussions, and educational sessions, participants will be introduced to the ‘5 Rs’ of sustainable fashion: Repair, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, and Restyle. These core principles are essential for fostering a more sustainable approach to fashion consumption.

The Refashion Academy is more than just an event; it is a movement aimed at promoting behavioural change. By offering practical examples and creative solutions, Refashion seeks to engage a wide audience, encouraging them to adopt more sustainable fashion habits. Sandra Baldini, director of consumer engagement at Refashion, emphasised the importance of this initiative in a recent press release. “Our approach to engaging as many people as possible in this movement involves promoting the 5 Rs through practical workshops and creative educational content, including TV segments,” she explained.

This pop-up campus tour follows the successful launch of the Repair Bonus at the end of 2023, an initiative by Refashion that incentivised the repair of clothing and footwear. The continued efforts of Refashion highlight the urgent need to raise awareness about the environmental impact of the textile industry. By encouraging the French public to participate in the repair and collection of used garments, Refashion is taking significant steps towards reducing the industry’s ecological footprint.

The Refashion pop-up campus is free and open to all, making it an accessible platform for individuals to learn about sustainable fashion practices while also saving money. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the textile collection process and receive practical advice on how to incorporate the 5 Rs into their daily lives.
